Whenever a tourist asked her a question in English, her mind went blank and she couldn't find the right words to say despite knowing the language well.

Finally she used to resort to her phone using Google Translate to help her and lost all confidence in her capability to communicate with others in English.  
"I'll just never be able to speak English fluently," is the way she felt...

...but one day I myself met her on a street and asked her a question.  I realised she was grasping for words and so I slowly tried to help her describe the meaning of the words she didn’t know and together we communicated sufficiently for me to understand the answer to my question.  

She realised that it wasn’t impossible for her to speak English and that all she needed was a little guidance.  We exchanged our contact details and soon she was following my advice and strategies to improve speaking English.  

Within a few weeks she was confident enough to stop tourists on the street and start a conversation to help them but particularly to practise her speaking skills in real context.
